Where characters really get a chance to shine as unique individuals is with clothing. The options at creation are pretty broad though most of the apparel is “the same thing in a different colorâ€. Still there are tons of choices from the get-go. I dressed my girl up in a nice pair of cargo pants and a tank top with a pair of glasses and she was ready to roll. And I could have lived with that for a long time until I discovered Pangaea in London. Honestly, it’s a good thing that TSW players have a clothing store to shop in because, at least to now, I have not had a single item of clothing drop off a monster. But that’s just fine now that I have some ready cash to hit Pangaea’s. I could have spent all day there…well, I actually spent most of my day off there looking at and trying on everything. Talk about choices galore! I ended up buying a few things but am saving my money for a trench coat which just suits my overall mysteriousness in TSW.

In this week’s , we look at Patch 5.0.4. Also, we stack the game up against some of the new MMO mechanics being seen in games recently.
I was about to write this week’s WoW Factor on Patch 5.0.4 when I started seeing all kinds of reports from payers about Warcraft taking the hit from Guild Wars 2. Now before you get the wrong impressions, I want to talk about World of Warcraft’s staying power in this article. WoW remains one of the best MMOs ever made and while new designs and concepts coming into play over the past few years have made other games amazing, Warcraft still remains an amazing game.
The Entertainment Software Association has announced that the annual E3 convention will remain in Los Angeles through 2015. Earlier this year, it was rumored that E3 would be changing locations.
“The City of Los Angeles is thrilled to welcome E3 back for another three years,” said Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. “My office was committed to doing whatever it took to keep the largest annual conference that the City hosts here for another three years. I personally joined in the negotiations, and we worked with all parties to ensure the needs of E3 would be met. The City is grateful the Entertainment Software Association continues to view LA, the entertainment capital of the world, as the ideal location for the world’s premiere video game convention.”
Funcom’s Oliver Kunz has posted the latest Age of Conan: Unchained development update that gives players an inside look at what the team has been working on for the last month. Most compellingly, Kunz talks about how the ‘single server technology’ utilized by The Secret World will be rolling into AoC over time.
This means that we can start the process of rolling Age of Conan onto the new platform. This process is now in motion and will continue in stages until probably early next year. Retro-fitting a new system like this is not just “plug and play” when it comes to not just an existing game (that wasn’t originally designed to support it), but an existing game with over four years worth of data. This means that to mitigate risk, we have chopped the process up into smaller steps so that we can ensure it is done as smoothly as possible, and that we aren’t all hanging around waiting for a year before absolutely everything we want to do with it gets done.
Requiem is coming to Facebook in all of its glory. Requiem will not be ‘just another Facebook game’ but will give players the same in-game experience they enjoy with the stand alone client.
To prepare for the Facebook launch, the game developers took a long look at Requiem’s introduction and have made numerous changes all the way from level one starting areas, to the cap of level 85. The Facebook edition of Requiem also introduces a new type of party challenge: Chaste Sanctum is an instanced dungeon intended for multiple players to enter, socialize in, and grab treasure while completing quests that take them deeper into the haunted catacombs where the most horrifying monsters yet will appear
The Guild Wars 2 blog has been updated with a pair of exciting announcements as the game nears the head start launch date. The first lays out the exact times that players will be able to access the game depending on the prepurchase option chosen. Also, the team has revealed the final list of world names for both the US and the EU.
Pre-Purchase with 3-Day Headstart: Everyone who pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 will enjoy three full days of Headstart Access. The three-day Headstart Access will officially begin at 0:00 AM Pacific time (GMT -7:00) on August 25th. In the second in our series of “Review in Progress” articles, we take a look at Pirate 101 and several key features of the game. In this week’s installment, we take a second look at combat, ship-to-ship battle, companions and questing. See what you think before adding your thoughts in the comments.
Combat, for instance, is something that grows on you and you learn to be very strategic about the way and the how of attack. Not only do you have to consider which enemy your character will attack but also which enemies your (up to three) companions will attack AND what skills they will utilize when so doing. Really, strategy lovers would groove on this aspect. There’s a lot of depth to the combat system and it’s definitely something that an adult would find compellingly fun.
